I do. I really have a goat. I didn’t even ask my hubby before I brought said goat home. It was an impulse purchase… one that I had longed for. AND… drum roll please…. It.was.on.sale. My girlfriend was with me and she even encouraged me and was OK with me putting it in her mini-van (we were on our way home from a scrapbook weekend). She is a REALLY good friend.
Only one major problem here (I am thinking you have potentially identified more than one major problem)…and that is we live in a subdivision. #homeownersassociation. We will deal with that later.
Why do I love goats? I.have.no.clue really where this goat craziness came from. I mean, I LOVE goat cheese but when I think of owning a goat, I am not really thinking of become some cheese maker.
They.are.cute. They.are fun to watch. They make me smile and laugh. Do I need any more reason than that?
I wasn’t raised on a farm. I’ve never worked on a farm. I’ve never taken care of a goat. (Can it be harder than 3 teenagers?). I actually have no idea how to take care of a goat. But I bought one anyway. And let me let you in on a little secret about me… I want to have a small farm someday. This suburban mom has a yearning in her soul for green pastures and all things farm.
I’ve read about goats. I have read how many people have gotten rid of their goats or decreased the size of said goat population. Why? Because they are a pain in the butt. They are near impossible to keep contained. escape.artists. And that is just the beginning.
But they.are.cute. They.are.fun.to.watch. They.make me smile and laugh. Do I need any more reason that that?
btw, i fell in love with these particular goats at Enota Mountain Retreat in N. Georgia! What a fabulous place to go camping!
Have you ever heard of “Goats on the Roof”? a hokey little tourist attraction in North Georgia.
The goats literally live on the roofs of these buildings with bridges to cross, little houses to seek shelter in and lots of room to romp.
So, wait… I have taken care of a goat. I fed one. once. At this hokey little place you can put goat feed in a little can and then pedal a bike that makes the can of feed move up to the roof and dump it in a bucket for the goats to eat. There you have it. Simple.
I fed this goat! He looks happy.
Did I mention that I am a planner? I don’t do ANYTHING without over thinking and over planning. I analyze. I shop around. I weigh out pros and cons, often on a spread sheet before I do much of anything. So, naturally, one would then think I would have planned out (well in advance) the need to fence in an area of our yard, establish some sort of shed for the goats shelter, ordered some feed, etc and had this little guys abode well established so he could make himself right at home…hence hubby would not be caught off guard and having to make frantic trips to Home Depot (on a Sunday evening). (quick note. He knew I wanted a goat. He just was not expecting a goat)
But I threw all of that “me nature” aside and just did it. I impulse purchased a goat.

Meet my goat, Willie. Ain’t he the CUTEST thing, EVER??? Yes, you have already noticed something quite unique about him. He’s considered a miniature goat and can live in the house and best of all… HE’S MADE OUT OF TIN so he won’t even POOP or shed…or escape or stink…or require a fence or cost me anything to feed!!!
When I look at Willie, he makes me smile. He really does. For now he will do. For now he will sit up on top of my kitchen cabinet and remind me of that dream I have. Best of all…I won’t be getting a letter in the mail from the homeowners association reminding me of community restrictions for farm animals.
But seriously… THERE IS A POINT TO THIS STORY.
I have dreams. You have dreams. Dreams are good & healthy as long as they don’t keep us from living where God has us at right now… goats or no goats. Having a physical symbol of that dream is good, like Willie. Maybe it’s a picture of a place you dream of visiting or a skill you have wanted to learn.
No matter how big or small your dreams may be, no matter how impossible they may seem from where you are standing today… dreams are good. Take appropriate steps to make those dreams a reality but ultimately leave the outcome in the hands of the one that created us because He has things in store for us that not even our wildest dreams could imagine!
Oh, and by the way… here is my family of goats…
I want chickens and a cow too… so for now this is it!
what dreams are tucked away in your heart?

Knowing you for many years, the “goat” really caught my attention and I immediately said……NO WAY!!!! But I never thought you would get a dog either so I read the story. Good one Mrs. Kerns good one.

I seriously sit around watching goat video’s sometimes! They are a hoot, but I also know they are a disaster to try to keep contained so we’ll have to weigh out the entertainment against the aggravation when we get our dream farmhouse someday!
