The beauty industry has people believing that all these lotions and potions they sell are going to make your face look like a super model! The prices are off the charts AND most of them are filled with harsh ingredients {can you pronounce them all?} which,in turn, are absorbed in to our blood stream because our skin is a giant sponge.
Let’s also mention the cost of these beauty promises!
doTERRA essential oils are beyond organic, safe, effective, and economical! For only pennies to a few dollars per recipe you can overhaul your beauty routine to include DIY recipes such as this facial serum. Handsoaps, body scrubs, shave creams, lotions, etc. are also simple to make. Since the oils are multi-purpose {cleaning the house, supporting emotional and physical health, etc.} your investment is stretched beyond measure and you will find yourself reaching for the oils for many purposes!
I understand troubled and aging skin. When I was 15 I started to suffer from cystic acne and it went on until I was nearly 40. It was so bad that the itching and burning would wake me up at night. I had been put on antibiotics for nearly 10 years along with every possible topical RX to try to get relief. I even did 2 rounds of Accutane which caused S.E.V.E.R.E. side effects and only temporary relief from the condition. It was just a band-aid and did not address the underlying cause. I was a young lady and I was desperate and had no idea at the time the harm I was causing my body. I cried about my skin, often. I felt u.g.l.y. In my early 30’s I tried a product through a very popular MLM that had a product geared towards acne prone skin. As always I was desperate and willing to try anything. Shortly after using this product I began to find bleach spots on my outer clothing {under my arms, under my bra line, on my back, etc}. It was so strange, first of all because I didn’t use bleach in our laundry and second of all because no-one else’s laundry in my family of 5 came out with bleach spots! A little detective work and figured out that the ingredients in the product {which obviously had been absorbed in to my body} were coming out through my pores when I would sweat and bleach my clothes in those places! I stopped using the product immediately and low and behold, no more bleach spots! So…while this product “appeared” to work quite well on the exterior…what was it doing to my insides???
It wasn’t until I saw a Naturopath at age 40 and was told to stop eating gluten that I saw a very fast turn-around in my skin health…for the first time in 25 years I had no more outbreaks!!! Still the scars and discoloration remained from years of dealing with this condition and I yearned for them to disappear. I tried my hand at “natural lines” from the department store but did not see any improvements in these “souvenirs” that remained…and yes, I even tried those fancy acid peels at the dermatologist with no success.
As I began my essential oil journey, I began to read about the benefits of using them directly on my face (with a carrier oil of course!). It really went against the grain to think about putting “oils” on my skin but it’s totally NOT what you think. It took trying it to believe it! All I can say is that when I went for my last facial {you know they love to push products, right?}, the esthetician said, “Your skin is absolutely beautiful and I can’t even recommend anything to you”, then she asked for samples of what I use! Maybe that doesn’t hit home with you, but for a girl that battled cystic acne and the marks it left behind, it was music to my soul.
I don’t believe that either one solution could have stood on it’s own. It could not have been just gluten or just essential oils. I had to change my diet and then the properties in the oils nourished and supported my skin’s appearance. I am so thankful that I was introduced to essential oils!
As I hit my mid 40’s I have found that continuing to use this facial serum has reduced the appearance of fine lines, wrinkles & imperfections, evened out my skin tone and left my face just right… not oily and not dry and promoted a smooth and glowing complexion!
My skin is rejuvenated! I know you’ll love it too!

Carrier oils:
While you can use Jojoba oil or Sweet Almond oil as your carrier oil for this serum, I absolutely love using 1/2 & 1/2! You can also use Fractioned Coconut oil if you need something more economical. I have also found that for my specific skin “struggles” that adding 2 droppers full of Carrot Seed Oil and Pomegranate Seed Oil has made a drastic difference in evening out my skin tone and giving it a cream texture.
Jojoba oil Contains long-chain essential fatty acids. Moisturizing. Anti-aging. *Look for expeller pressed and hexane free.
Sweet Almond oil is loaded with antioxidants, essential fatty acids, vitamins A,B,D & E. It is moisturizing and has anti-aging properties. *Make sure to buy cold pressed!
Carrot Seed Oil Full of naturally occurring beta carotene, Vitamin A, Vitamin E, Carotenoids, Tocopheryl and more. Creates even skin tone, detoxifies, moisturizes and balances skin.
Pomegranate Seed Oil Promotes cell renewal, improves elasticity, diminishes the appearance of fine lines, wrinkles and skin imperfections, nourishes, anti-inflammatory, anti-aging, assists to unclog pores.
One of the greatest things is that once you make the initial investment in your ingredients, the number of refills you get, makes it insanely economical! No way, No how can you purchase anything off the shelf for near the price or anywhere near the results.
The links I am providing for sourcing these ingredients are the exact products I use in these recipes. I’ve tried other brands and have found these to be high quality and work the best. I am ordering the carrier oils through the wonderful links you provided ~ Quick question, do you prefer to use the 2 oz. glass bottles with eye droppers, mist sprayers, or simply the those with caps? Many Thanks!

I love the 2oz bottles with the dropper top for the serum! So much easier to use in my opinion. I buy the amber colored bottle but clear or blue is fine too.

Hi! Glad you found the information helpful! The first oils I used were Frank, Geranium, Melaleuca & Myrrh. I saw fantastic results evening out my skin tone and saw the inflammation decrease greatly. As my oil collection grew and I added some of the more expensive oils (with my awesome LRP points) such as Helichrysum and Sandalwood. For my carrier oil I do some FCO but always add some Jojoba or sweet almond. I also add the Carrot Seed Oil or Raspberry seed oil because of the antioxidant value and spf value! There really is no wrong way to go! Let me know what you end up making!
