“Homestead Sweet Homestead” part 4
I’ve never had a walk-in pantry nor anything beyond bi-fold doors for a laundry “closet”. First.world.problem. I know! I remember when we first looked at this house. We did NOT experience the “WOW” factor by a.n.y. stretch of the imagination… BUT… I was in love with the fact that it had a walk-in pantry & laundry room.
I could just envision what it could be {without the 1970’s cabinets and linoleum, of course}.
{Does ANYONE feel the love for popcorn style ceilings?}
There was nothing structural to change about it beyond moving the placement for the washing machine water. Everything else was just gut it and do a complete facelift. Of course, when we discovered the termites, that meant even having to replace the window & door headers and a few studs, but at this point in the game, nothing surprised us!!! {do you see the termite tracks around the window?}…
In hindsight, I wish we had done this faux brick paneling in a few others places throughout the house. Wait until you see how cool and authentic it looks painted white!
{Love the latched attic access door hubby made out of barnwood}
We did have dreams of really unique built in pantry shelving. The plans were drawn, and we know our amazing cabinet team would have brought these sketches to life as they did in many other rooms… however; when the termites ate the wood they also ate the budget so the dream of built-in’s had to die… a very sad death. We went with industrial rolling shelves from Costco as an alternative. We can certainly re-purpose this type of shelving in to our basement storage some day should the budget allow for future built-ins {fingers and toes crossed}. But one thing I was not giviing up no matter how much of the budget the termites ate…the custom Pantry Pocket door! Isn’t it pretty!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I wanted the room to have a lot of different textures, just like we had done in the bathrooms, so we went with the same faux wood ceramic floors, repurposed tin from the barn for the ceiling {also in the master bath}, an attic door made of barn wood from our treasure hunt, a faux brick wall {unique just to this room} and galvanized fixtures. We had a lot of old shelves from IKEA so we simply painted the shelves white, slightly distressed them, and gave them a new home.
Oh, and by the way… there is now a shiny new white washer & dryer! Ask me why I have a new washer and dryer? Never mind… hubby has heard enough about how he broke it!
I hope you enjoyed this portion of our new Homestead Sweet Homestead Tour! Be sure to check out the exterior, master bath and kids bath
